"I can confirm that as part of our overall strategy to release fewer Guitar Hero SKUs in 2010, we are closing the Underground Studio and relocating the Guitar Hero headquarters to Santa Monica under the leadership of David Haddad," an Activision spokesperson said in a statement given to IGN.

Activision would not, however, confirm that the company has shuttered RedOctane. A report from Kotaku says the company has been completely shut down, with only a few of its top employees now reporting directly to Activision.

This news comes a day after Activision made cuts to both Neversoft and Radical Entrainment. The company also confirmed the closing of development studio Luxoflux.

Call of Duty next?

Bobby Kotick har vært genial med tanke på kortsiktig utnytting av Guitar Hero, men nå ser vi hva taktikken hans har ført til. Haugevis med Guitar Hero spill over en kort periode har gjort at markedet er oversvømt med rytmespill. Folk har rett og slett ikke lyst til å kjøpe alle spillene som har kommet ut. Hadde de holdt seg til et eller to spill i året så hadde Guitar Hero 4 og 5 solgt mye bedre.
